Spotlight on Sawyer Lee: A Rising Star from Flower Mound, Texas
Flower Mound, Texas, has a new reason to celebrate, as local athlete Sawyer Lee has achieved an extraordinary milestone in her athletic career. This talented 18-year-old has made history as the first member of the Win Kids Ducks, a renowned youth Acrobatics and Tumbling team, to receive a full-ride scholarship to Missouri State University for Acrobatics and Tumbling. Her story is not just about personal triumph but also reflects the growing opportunities within a sport that is rapidly gaining recognition on the collegiate stage.
Sawyer’s journey began early in life, practically destined for the gymnastics floor. With parents who are heavily involved in competitive gymnastics programs at Win Kids, Sawyer was introduced to the world of flips, tumbles, and teamwork at the age of four. She quickly stood out, excelling not only in gymnastics but also in Diving, Trampoline & Tumbling, and Acrobatics and Tumbling. As one of the founding members of the Ducks, Sawyer demonstrated unmatched dedication, leading her team to numerous victories, including their first state championship.
Acrobatics and Tumbling, while relatively new to the NCAA scene, has its roots in the foundations of gymnastics and cheerleading. Officially recognized as an NCAA emerging sport for women in 2020, it has opened doors for young athletes like Sawyer, offering them pathways to collegiate competition and education. Combining athleticism, teamwork, and artistry, Acrobatics and Tumbling allows participants to showcase their talents in a dynamic and highly competitive environment. For Sawyer, this sport not only challenged her physically but also ignited her dream of competing at the collegiate level.
Sawyer’s achievements extend far beyond the mat. Her ability to balance training—logging more than 20 hours a week—alongside her academic responsibilities and social life is a testament to her discipline and resilience. Overcoming mental blocks and physical challenges, she has demonstrated a rare combination of tenacity and humility. “You don’t have to be the best; you just need to be better than yesterday,” Sawyer says, offering advice to younger athletes who look up to her as a coach and mentor at Win Kids.
The Win Kids Ducks, under the guidance of Coach Gibby, have established themselves as one of the premier youth Acrobatics and Tumbling programs in the nation. Known for their innovative routines and tight-knit team culture, the Ducks have become a launching pad for athletic dreams. Sawyer’s full-ride scholarship is a shining example of how the program is not only about winning championships but also about creating opportunities for its athletes to reach new heights.
As Sawyer prepares to join Missouri State University’s Acrobatics and Tumbling team, her story serves as an inspiration to her peers and the community. It’s a moment of pride for Win Kids and Flower Mound alike, proving that with hard work, determination, and the right support system, dreams can become reality. For Sawyer, this scholarship is just the beginning of a promising collegiate journey, one that will undoubtedly continue to break barriers and inspire others.
Congratulations to Sawyer Lee, a trailblazer for Acrobatics and Tumbling and a proud representative of the Win Kids Ducks. Her story reminds us all that greatness is within reach for those who dare to dream and work tirelessly to achieve it.
