Q: Can Young Children Take Violin Lessons?
A: Yes! While normally we have children starting violin at 8 years or older, younger students can take violin lessons. We have teachers who specialize in teaching very young students (like Suzuki Method) and will accept students as young as 4 years of age.
However, parents need to understand and be clear about the committment. Having a child take violin lessons at 4 years of age requires parent participation. At least one parent is asked to sit in the sessions so they can assist their child's practice later in the week.
You child will also progress rather slowly. You should not expect you're child to be playing a Mozart piece perfectly within months. It will take years of lessons and practice to reach that stage.
All this work and commitment definitely has rewards. Obviously, if a child begins lessons at the age of 4 and continues for many years, he/she will be far more advance than any other violin student who starts at 8 or later.
If you have a child who is at least 4 years old and you're interested in having him/her take violin lessons, please contact us for a personal evaluation.
