Downing PTA will host a movie night for parents featuring the groundbreaking education documentary "Race to Nowhere". This film identifies and challenges a "one-size-fits-all" achievement culture in American schools and documents its impact on students. The goal of this film is to raise awareness, create dialogue and empower us to take action in our homes, schools and community.

September 24 at 6:30 p.m.
Downing Middle School Cafeteria

The duration of the film is 85 minutes and we will allow for 30 minutes of discussion following the film. The movie night is open to all parents and adult community members. The film is rated PG-13.

Featuring heartbreaking stories of students across the country who have been pushed to the brink by over-scheduling, over-testing and the pressure to achieve, "Race to Nowhere" points to a silent epidemic in our school. Through the testimony of educators, parents and education experts, it reveals an education system in which cheating has become commonplace; students have become disengaged; stress-related illness, depression and burnout are rampant; and young people arrive at college and the workplace unprepared and uninspired.
