Wellington Lemonade Pals

While the IRS puts the squeeze on taxpayers, the Lake Cities kids will focus on raising money for their North Texas neighbors suffering from cystic fibrosis (CF). The Lemonade Pals, a grassroots effort that has raised more than $13,275 over six years, will hold four lemonade stands on Saturday, April 20 in Highland Village’s Castlewood neighborhood; Flower Mound’s Bridlewood and Wellington neighborhoods; and Lantana. In addition, CF Lemonade Pals will set up at the Viking Fun Run in Highland Village on April 20 and FMYSA Football Games on April 27.

In the past, these communities have generously supported this effort, by kids and for kids, to impact the lives of neighbors living with CF, a life-threatening disease that attacks the lungs and digestive system. CF affects about 30,000 children and young adults, with patients having a life expectancy of 37. One hundred percent of funds raised benefits the NE Texas chapter of the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation (CFF).

“The incredible outpouring of support demonstrates the childlike optimism reflected in our motto: When life gives you lemons, make lemonade for CF,” says Flower Mound resident and Lemonade Pals co-founder Cynthia Funderburk. “We experienced an outpouring of support from the community and a little friendly competition to drive up the total raised. I have friends suffering from CF, and they endure daily breathing treatments, handfuls of pills and costly therapies just to stay alive. I raise my lemonade cup in a toast to them.”

“These events have made a tremendous difference in the lives of our neighbors living with CF, a life-threatening disease that attacks the lungs and digestive system,” says Jill Welke, event co-chair. CF impacts about 30,000 children and young adults, with patients having a life expectancy of 37. One hundred percent of proceeds raised benefit the NE Texas chapter of the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation (CFF).

The sold-out North Texas Wine Opener on May 4 features a seated dinner prepared by acclaimed chef Morris Salerno of The Grotto; a selection of fine wine generously supplied by Newton Vineyard; and a silent and live auction led by GDP Auctioneer Services. The Derby theme for the May 4, 2013 event is ‘Raise for the 65 Roses,’ which incorporates the elegance and tradition of the greatest two minutes in sports.

Volunteers organizing Change for CF, Pizza in the Park and Lemonade Pals hope to meet or exceed last year’s totals, so they are reaching out to the community, and going viral to reach out-of-town family members and friends.
