FMHS Closes 2012-13 Theatre Season with Unique Presentation of Flowers for Algernon May 2-4

A classic drama presented in a unique staging format closes the 2012-13 season for the Flower Mound High School Theatre Department as the Dramatic Paw ‘Prents present Flowers for Algernon May 2, 3 and 4 at FMHS Jack and Donna Clark Auditorium, located at 3411 Peters Colony Road in Flower Mound. Curtain time is 7 p.m. each night.

Utilizing modified theatre-in-the-round staging, the audience for Flowers for Algernon will be seated on the stage of the auditorium providing an intimate dramatic theatrical experience. Due to limited seating, only 150 tickets for will be available for each performance. Tickets are $8 and will be on sale May 1, 2 and 3 from 11:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. in the lobby outside the Flower Mound High School office and will also be sold at the door before each show beginning at 6 p.m. until sold out.

Based on the novel by Daniel Keyes, Flowers for Algernon is the compelling story of mentally-challenged 32-year-old Charlie Gordon (senior Jay Carlile) and the intertwining of his life with that of Algernon, a laboratory mouse. Three scientists – Dr. Nemur (sophomore Austin Greenawalt), Dr. Strauss (senior Elizabeth Buckman) and Burt (sophomore Ryan Coyle) – convince Charlie to undergo a radical surgical technique to increase his intelligence, an act that leads to dire consequences for Charlie, his friends and his teacher, Alice Kinnian (senior Lexi Hornsby).

The Dramatic Paw ‘Prents are joined in presentation of Flowers for Algernon by the FMHS Technical Paws under the direction of student stage manager senior Carlie Hrubo. Performances of Flowers for Algernon are produced by special arrangement with the Dramatic Publishing Company.

Stage Left ...

FMHS International Thespian Society Troupe 6154 will conduct a gift basket auction during all performances of Flowers for Algernon. Funds raised will assist troupe members in attending the state and international Thespian festivals throughout the year. Over 26 FMHS theatre students will participate in the June 24-29 International ITS Festival in Lincoln, Neb.
