Bridlewood Golf Club to Host Rally for the Cure Golf Tournament & Food Truck Festival

Although everyone is familiar with “Race for the Cure,” not everyone is familiar with “Rally for the Cure.” Rally for the Cure is a program sponsored by Susan G. Komen Foundation to raise money for breast cancer research and awareness through golf, tennis and social events.

On Saturday, June 15, there will be a golf tournament and separate food truck festival held at Bridlewood Golf Club in Flower Mound benefiting Susan G. Komen for the Cure. Please come out and participate in this unique event that is open to the public, and includes a continental breakfast, golf tournament with various contests and fun events throughout the day, including closest to the pin, longest drive, and other fun prizes, all to raise money for breast cancer awareness. Men and women are both invited to play in the event, which will be followed by a Food Truck festival in the Bridlewood parking lot, with commitments from Rockn’ Rick’s, First Bite Gourmet and My Cup Cake Garden. Even if you are not playing in the event, anyone can come out and support Rally for the Cure by participating in the Food Truck Festival.

The statistics say one in eight women will be diagnosed in her lifetime.

“It’s hard to describe how you feel when you hear those words – you have breast cancer,” said Flower Mound native Shelly Johnson, a five-year breast cancer survivor. “I believed it, but I didn’t believe it,” said Shelly, a flight attendant with American Airlines.

“There was a time I was receiving chemo every week for a year,” said Shelly, who is extremely close to her family, which is what gave her the strength to endure the grueling treatments. “What got me through it was knowing I had to be here for my mom who had been through so much. She lost both parents and her husband to cancer, and I knew I had to keep on fighting for her.”

The registration fee for the golf tournament is $100 (or register as a foursome for $375) and includes continental breakfast, range balls, the golf tournament, a 15 percent discount on all soft goods in the pro shop day of event, and a certificate to play one round at each of the 6 Dominion golf courses Mon - Fri and only pay the golf cart fee. The food trucks will have food available for purchase starting at 11 a.m. The schedule for the day is as follows:

Registration and breakfast: 7 a.m.

Shotgun scramble start: 8 a.m.

Awards: 12:30 – 1 p.m.

Food Truck Festival, with food for purchase: 11 a.m. – 3 p.m.

To register for the golf tournament, contact 214-493-2441 by June 4 to secure your spot. The majority of the funds raised from the event will directly help those in need in our community, by paying for diagnostics and treatment for local uninsured women.

Hole Sponsorships start at $250. Please contact Julie Clinton at jccjac@tx.rr.com if you are interested in a sponsorship.

“You have to believe you can get through it and kick cancer’s butt,” summarized Shelly Johnson. “And thanks to programs like Rally for the Cure, we can.”

Rally for the Cure is a grassroots program to spread awareness about breast health and breast cancer through volunteer-organized golf, tennis and social events. These events have communicated the important message that early detection saves lives to over 2 million people, and have generated over $70 million for Susan G. Komen for the Cure since 1996.
