MLK Essay Contests Under Way

Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., Essay Contest

2014-15 Theme - Diversity: Our Beloved Community

Eligible Participants: All Southern Denton County Students in Grades 4 - 12

Requirements: All typed essays must be original and relate to Dr. King’s ideals, philosophy, and principles.

It must also incorporate this year’s theme. It should be titled Diversity: Our Beloved Community.

Name, grade, school, and teacher’s name must be written on a separate cover sheet.

Teachers will select the top 10 per class to send to us.

Grades 4-5 – 200-300 Words; Grades 6-8 – 350-400 Words; Grades 9-12 – 450-600 Words

Cash Prizes(subject to change) are as follows. Grades 4, 5: First $ 50; Second $40; Third $25;

Grades 6, 7, 8: First: $100; Second: $75; 3rd: $50; Grades 9-12: First - $150; Second -$100; Third: $75

The winners will be recognized and the prizes awarded at the Dr. King Celebration on January 18, 2015 at 6:30 PM, at Lewisville High School Auditorium located at 1098 W. Main Street, Lewisville, TX.
