St. Jude Announces 2016 Evening Under the Stars

This year’s annual St. Jude Evening Under the Stars Party & St. Jude Golf Classic will take place on Saturday, Oct. 22, and Monday, Oct. 24, to benefit St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital®, which is leading the way the world understands, treats and defeats childhood cancer and other life-threatening diseases.

To launch the festivities, St. Jude will host a kick-off party from 6-8 p.m. on Wednesday, June 1, at DEC on Dragon in the Dallas Design District.

The October weekend’s event chairs Holly and Doug Brooks will join emcee Doug Dunbar of CBS 11 as approximately 1,000 guests will attend the two-day celebration of the St. Jude mission to help ensure families never receive a bill from St. Jude for treatment, travel, housing or food – because all a family should worry about is helping their child live.

The dinner program, co-chaired by Margo and Jim Keyes, at 6 p.m. on Saturday, Oct. 22, at the Omni Dallas Hotel, will include a cocktail reception, silent and live auctions, and entertainment by the Dallas String Quartet Electric. Individual tickets are $250 and sponsorship opportunities are available for a limited time.

During the event, longtime St. Jude supporter Dallas Mavericks Head Coach Rick Carlisle will be honored for his participation in Hoops for St. Jude – an annual season-long fundraising and awareness campaign that unites the NBA community around the St. Jude mission. Carlisle is a regular visitor to the hospital and enjoys participating in patient activities during basketball season.

“Watching the community come together to support such a worthy cause means more than words can say for Holly and me,” Brooks said, “Every child deserves the chance to live a long and healthy life, and we know St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital won’t stop working until no child dies from cancer.”

Following the St. Jude Evening under the Stars Party, there will be the St. Jude Golf Classic on Monday, October 24, at Stonebriar Country Club on 5050 Country Club Drive in Frisco, Texas. Co-chaired by Joe Haggar III and Laura and Taylor Brooks, the event will include a scramble with tee times at 8:30 a.m. and 1:45 p.m. Register in foursomes or as individuals for $500 each. Morning players will wrap-up the tournament with a luncheon and awards ceremony. Afternoon players will be invited to an end-of-day cocktail reception and awards ceremony.

St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital is leading the way the world understands, treats and defeats childhood cancer and other life-threatening diseases. It is the only National Cancer Institute-designated Comprehensive Cancer Center devoted solely to children. Treatments invented at St. Jude have helped push the overall childhood cancer survival rate from 20 percent to 80 percent since the hospital opened more than 50 years ago. St. Jude is working to drive the overall survival rate for childhood cancer to 90 percent, and we won’t stop until no child dies from cancer. St. Jude freely shares the discoveries it makes, and every child saved at St. Jude means doctors and scientists worldwide can use that knowledge to save thousands more children. Families never receive a bill from St. Jude for treatment, travel, housing or food – because all a family should worry about is helping their child live.
